Understanding Health and Access to Health Care Report
A new report, Understanding Health and Access to Health Care: The Case of Somali and Iraqi Asylum Seekers and Refugees, by Judith Sixsmith, Rebecca Lawthom, Ilana Mountian, Nathan Whittle & Mei Lan Fang is now available.
The report is based on an extensive qualitative research project that explores the experiences of health care access and encounters with services of members from two distinct communities in Manchester, England. They conclude with a number of recommendations for improvements including re-evaluating the asylum seeking process.
The Centre’s 2011 trainee Mei Lan Fang was involved in this project and will be presenting the work at the Diversity Conference today, June 12th, 2012 at 3:00pm at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC.
