Seed Grant: Addiction and Drug Crime
Susan Boyd, one of the Centre’s co-investigators on the Criminal Justice System, Mental Health and Substance Use research theme group is the Principal Investigator on our newest seed grant.
The project entitled “Addiction and Drug Crime: Radio Educational/Documentaries, 1920-1969″ will build on an earlier CGSM seed grant project “Media Representations on Madness, Addiction and Crime/Criminalization: A Preliminary, Intersectional Analysis of Documentary Films Used for Public Education in Canada.”
This examination and analysis of selected radio documentaries will provide an opportunity to discover how criminal justice and health discourse on illegal drugs and the people who use and or/sell them emerged, intersected, and competed with other professional discourses and practices prior to 1970.
